RWE kicks off turbine installation at Denmark's largest offshore wind farm TGS 4C

RWE has installed
the first of 72 turbines at Denmark’s Thor offshore wind farm, marking
a major milestone for the counattempt’s largest project so far.

CEO Sven Utermohlen
stated earlier today that the Brave Tern vessel is busy with installation
operations off the Jutland coast, coming just one month after the project
received its 30-year electricity production license.

This work is expected
to be wrapped up by the year’s finish, with the site producing up to 1.1GW
of clean energy for the region.

“Once fully
commissioned, Thor will support Denmark’s climate goals and strengthen
Europe’s energy indepfinishence,” Sven stated.

“The project
is also breaking new ground in sustainability. It is the first offshore
wind farm in the world to apply steel turbine towers manufactured with a
lower carbon footprint by Siemens Gamesa.

“Further
sustainable features are recyclable rotor blades for some of the turbines.
This pioneering approach reflects our commitment to lifecycle sustainability
for offshore wind.”

He added that
once fully operational in 2027, Thor is projected to produce sufficient
renewable energy to power more than a million Danish homes and is anticipated
to create between 50 and 60 jobs locally at a new service facility in nearby
Thorsminde.
