Nidec Conversion sets out its ESG roadmap to 2028


Nidec Conversion, an international provider of solutions for energy conversion, industrial automation, power quality and battery energy storage systems (BESS), has presented its first optimisation plan for ESG (environmental, social and governance).

The plan, running through to 2028, builds on a materiality analysis that outlines key priorities: reducing emissions in customer applications and company operations; supporting decarbonisation across the value chain; promoting a culture of sustainability, innovation, health and safety; creating social value at regional level; and strengthening trust through transparent, accountable governance with a mind to long-term impact.

ESG: The EU wants to be a pioneer

The company is aligning its efforts with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and will implement eight ESG tarreceives through 48 strategic measures, of which 23 are environmental, 16 social and 9 related to governance, each mapped to one or more of the 14 Sustainable Development Goals. These tarreceives will be embedded into day-to-day operations over a three-year period from 2025 to 2028.

Key issues climate alter, biodiversity and water management

Nidec Conversion is advancing its environmental goals with a focus on climate action, biodiversity and water stewardship. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040, and in Scope 3 by 2050, through tarreceiveed measures and a thorough reassessment of its supply chain. Initial tarreceives include cutting Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 42% by 2030, and reducing Scope 3 emissions by 25% compared to 2022 levels.

The transition will be driven by a rapid shift to renewable energy across Nidec Conversion’s operations, with the goal of meeting 50% of its total energy requireds with renewable electricity by 2030.

Maximising energy efficiency

Nidec Conversion states it is working to improve the efficiency of energy systems as part of efforts to meet rising global demand. The company highlights component weight optimisation as a way to boost power density and cut energy apply in technologies like converters. It has also set a tarreceive to reduce water consumption by one-third by 2028, citing investments in recycling and more efficient processes.
