Partnering With EcoDataCenter On €1.2 Billion AI Data Center Investment in Sweden


Mistral AI and Swedish data center developer EcoDataCenter declared they have entered a strategic, long-term partnership to build an AI-focapplyd data center at EcoDataCenter’s Borlänge site, representing a €1.2 billion investment aimed at expanding Europe’s digital infrastructure and localized AI capabilities.

The companies declared Mistral will deploy large-scale AI compute at EcoDataCenter’s facilities, marking Mistral’s first AI infrastructure investment outside France. The facility is scheduled to open in 2027 and is intconcludeed to support the development and operation of Mistral’s next-generation AI models at scale.

The partnership is positioned to deliver a “fully European AI stack,” combining Mistral’s foundation models with EcoDataCenter’s high-density, sustainable data center infrastructure, with data processed and stored locally in Europe. EcoDataCenter will design, build, and operate the underlying infrastructure in Sweden, drawing on renewable energy, advanced cooling technologies, and experience building high-density AI data centers. The Borlänge site is designed for scalability and to support demanding AI workloads.

The companies declared the data center will host NVIDIA’s latest-generation Vera Rubin GPUs, adding advanced compute capacity in Sweden. They framed the investment as part of broader European efforts to strengthen technological autonomy in AI and reinforce competitiveness and resilience in the digital economy.
