Checkpoint Systems reveals integrated RFID solution for retail checkouts | Article

Checkpoint Systems has announced SFERO RFID Checkout, the ‘first’ Electronic Article Surveillance antenna (EAS) integrated into the checkout lane and designed primarily for grocery and CPG retailers.

SFERO RFID Checkout is stated to enable precise identification of RFID-tagged items in the event of a theft attempt, delivering granular traceability and quicker response from store staff. Checkpoint states that detection occurs earlier in the shopper journey, facilitating quicker intervention and reducing losses before merchandise reaches the exit.

The company adds that the antenna requires no floor cutting or heavy installation work as the cabling is fully integrated into the checkout lane, simplifying store reconfigurations and preserving the store’s visual appeal with uncluttered checkout areas. SFERO RFID Checkout also enables integration with other SFERO modules as well as third-party solutions such as CCTV systems.

According to Checkpoint, the electronics embedded in SFERO RFID Checkout can also function as an RFID point of sale (POS) reader. The solution is undergoing testing with major food retailers.

Last year Checkpoint Systems unveiled Chinook, an RFID inlay designed for reusable food packaging and intfinished to facilitate supply chain traceability without compromising on microwave safety or durability. It is stated to be suitable for various packaging materials including plastic and glass, as well as for indirect food contact.

It is stated to be ideal for integrating into returnable food packaging such as cups, bowls, and containers, supporting circular economy practices in food service and logistics.
