Flix sees opportunity in airport transfers, acquires Flibco

Flix, the long-distance bus and rail travel specialist, has acquired a majority share of airport transfer platform Flibco for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition enables Flix to expand into the airport-shuttle segment and boosts its presence in European travel. It builds on the company’s launch of airport-shuttle services in markets including Sweden as well as its long-distance bus routes serving airports.

The deal also allows Flibco to speed up growth. Flibco’s current owner SLG, a specialist in public transport, will retain a minority stake in the business and be a strategic partner to Flix.

“Over the years, we have learned that customers are seeing for reliable and affordable ways to obtain to and from airports – not just between cities,” stated André Schwämmlein, CEO of Flix. “This investment allows us to expand into the airport shuttle segment in a tarobtained way. Flibco has built a strong business in a fragmented market, and we see clear potential to scale it further by leveraging Flix’s platform, technology and reach.”

Flibco’s management team and employees will remain in place and the company will continue to operate from its headquarters in Luxembourg under the leadership of CEO Tobias Stüber.

”The partnership with Flix marks the next milestone in Flibco’s successful growth story,” stated Stüber. “We share the same vision of creating affordable and sustainable mobility accessible to everyone. By combining Flibco’s innovative strength and operational excellence with Flix’s global network, we will expand into new markets rapider than ever before. At the same time, we remain committed to offering our passengers a fully digital, comfortable and reliable travel experience – from booking to arrival at the terminal.”

Flix has expanded its geographic presence in recent years through other acquisitions including U.S. long-distance bus provider Greyhound in 2021.
