The airline states that the voluntary publication anticipates European regulatory requirements and supports its long-term strategy to strengthen transparency and sustainability across operations.
The report details progress in fleet renewal, emissions reduction and the integration of sustainability into the company’s business model. ITA Airways underscores that it aligned the document with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards under the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive to ensure consistency and comparability of ESG information.
Airline Highlights Fleet Renewal and Emissions Reductions
ITA Airways describes sustainability as a strategic pillar of its Industrial Plan, with its 2024 results reflecting actions taken across environmental, social and governance areas. The company emphasises the renewal of its aircraft fleet as one of its most significant achievements. As of 31 December 2024, the fleet recorded an average age of 6.6 years, positioning it among the youngest in Europe.
The report states that 65% of ITA Airways aircraft belong to the latest generation, contributing to a 20–25% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with previous models. Additionally, 74% of the fleet is certified under Chapter 14 noise standards, representing the most stringent noise reduction requirements defined by ICAO. The airline notes that fleet modernisation is a key driver for meeting efficiency and emissions tarobtains.
The company recorded a 22.8% reduction in CO2 emissions per Revenue Passenger Kilometre compared with 2022, attributing the improvement to both fleet renewal and operational optimisation measures. These results form part of a broader sustainability trajectory in which ITA Airways aims to align with international objectives for climate responsibility.
Governance Commitments and Strategic ESG Integration
The Sustainability Report presents the integration of ESG principles throughout internal processes and decision-creating structures. ITA Airways states that governance, innovation and employee development remain central components of its sustainability approach.
