NORMAL, Ill. – Another round of layoffs is underway at Rivian as part of the EV creater’s efforts to cut costs.
Confirmation of the job cuts comes as founder and CEO RJ Scaringe is cutting back on his holdings of company stock.
On Thursday, the company confirmed “a compact number of salaried positions” were being eliminated.
Most of Rivian’s layoffs are due to manufacturing upgrades built in April, when the company started producing the same number of vehicles with two shifts instead of three.
Hourly employees in Normal are not expected to be impacted by this round of layoffs. Rivian did not state how many workers were affected.
The layoffs impact less than 1% of Rivian’s employees. About 8,000 people work at the Rivian plant in Normal.
