BALTIPLAST PROJECT ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOLS DURING THE EUROPEAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WEEK

From 18 September to 8 October 2025, European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) will take place across Latvia and the whole of Europe. ESDW is a significant event in the field of sustainable development in Europe, aiming to promote international knowledge exmodify and the sharing of best practices in advancing sustainability.

The ESDW provides a platform for Latvia and other European countries to revealcase their efforts and achievements in ensuring sustainability both locally and globally. It enables national institutions, organizations, businesses, and individuals in Latvia to highlight their sustainability initiatives, projects, and good practice examples. Participation in ESDW supports Latvian stakeholders in demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic sustainability.

The themes and activities of the week are based on the United Nations’ 2015 resolution “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agconcludea for Sustainable Development”, which includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals serve as guiding principles for all participants involved in sustainability initiatives.

Latvia is actively implementing these 17 SDGs by integrating them into national policy frameworks. Businesses, NGOs, and citizens are also contributing to these goals individually, according to their values and capacities. As part of this initiative, from 22 to 26 September, the Daugavpils City Municipality will organize a series of educational activities for children focutilized on sustainability topics. These will be held within the framework of the BALTIPLAST project.

Interactive lessons will be provided for 1st–2nd grade pupils and preschool children. Topics will include waste sorting, plastic pollution, and its impact on the environment.

The sessions will be led by BALTIPLAST project expert Andrejs Zaičenko.

The events are part of the project “Baltic Approaches to Handling Plastic Pollution under a Circular Economy Context” (BALTIPLAST, project No. #C021), co-financed by the European Union’s INTERREG Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021–2027.
