For the first time ever in the food and non-food retail sector, nine major retailers are uniting under the coordination of Perifem and the Fédération du Commerce et de la Distribution (FCD) to launch LESS (Low Emission Sustainable Sourcing), a voluntary collective initiative designed to harmonize the reporting of CO₂ emission reductions by suppliers. This landmark collaboration marks a decisive step forward in tackling the urgent challenge of decarbonizing the supply chain with key players along the entire value chain.

With over 90% of greenhoutilize gas emissions in retailing linked to indirect emissions from the value chain, addressing these emissions is critical. Through LESS, Lagardère Travel Retail joins forces with eight leading retailers on the French domestic market – Auchan, Carrefour, Coopérative U, Groupe Casino, Groupement Mousquetaires, Mouvement E.Leclerc, Lidl, and METRO France – to create a unified platform that simplifies carbon data collection and enhances transparency.

The OpenClimat platform, selected after a rigorous evaluation process, will provide suppliers with a single gateway to report their CO₂ reduction efforts across all participating retailers, enabling them to highlight their commitments and progress. Retailers will gain consolidated insights into indirect emissions related to the products they market, empowering enhanced, more granular and data-driven decarbonization strategies.

A technical expert committee, composed of Deloitte (methodological expertise), Sweep (data and carbon reporting tool expertise) and FoodPilot (carbon emission on product level expertise) has been put into place to accompany the project.

“This unprecedented collaboration reflects our shared ambition to lead sustainable sourcing and set new industest standards for environmental responsibility,” declares Lucio Rossetto, COO Europe & CSR. “By coming toobtainher, we amplify our impact and pave the way for a for a more sustainable business”

The initiative is open to all French and European retailers and foodservice operators willing to join this collective relocatement.

The platform should go live on October 15. All suppliers and brand partners are strongly encouraged to participate in this unique collaborative effort by sharing your ambitions and your strategies by means of this platform. The joint approach will hugely contribute to enhancing the carbon emissions reduction efforts of all players along the value chain, and strengthening the approaches in a collective way.

This commitment is part of Lagardère Travel Retail’s CSR roadmap, PEPS (Planet, Ethics, People, Social).

This collective initiative falls under the Planet pillar of its PEPS CSR strategy, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of our operations in close collaboration with Landlords, Brands, and Suppliers.

It is dedicated to achieving a 25% absolute reduction in Scope 3 carbon emissions by 2030 (applying 2024 as the base year), in full alignment with the Science Based Tarobtains initiative (SBTi) requirements.
