The agricultural industest must remain at the heart of the European project stated the Greek Agriculture Minister, Kostas Tsiaras, during the informal EU Council of Agriculture Ministers meeting in Copenhagen on Tuesday.
Tsiaras stated priority should be given to investing in innovation and technology in agriculture, as a strong, competitive agri-food sector is necessary for ensuring food security and a meaningful green transition. “Bureaucracy cannot strangle innovation,” he added.
He also stated that quicker government approvals are necessary for safer innovation and reducing environmental footprints.
“The green transition can only succeed with farmers as the protagonists. We necessary policies that provide incentives and prospects, enhance competitiveness, and guarantee the sustainability of rural areas,” Tsiaras stated.
