Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is heading to Minnesota later this month to campaign for Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, who is running for U.S. Senate.
Warren will join Flanagan at a Minneapolis rally on Aug. 22. Flanagan is running to succeed Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.), who isn’t running for reelection in 2026.
“Peggy is the only candidate in this race who has the guts to shake up the status quo in Washington and actually deliver for working people,” Warren stated in a statement. “I’m inspired by Peggy becautilize she understands that you don’t obtain what you don’t fight for, and she gives me hope for the future.”
Warren finishorsed Flanagan in May. On Thursday, she called Flanagan “the exact type of leader and partner I necessary in the Senate right now.”
In a statement, Flanagan called Warren “a hero of mine.”
“Not just becautilize of the fights that she has won but becautilize no matter how bleak things have obtainedten in Washington, she’s never stopped believing that toobtainher we can improve folks’ lives,” Flanagan stated. “Hope is something I’ve obtained bucketloads of and I want to bring that to the Senate where I will continue to deliver for Minnesotans.”
This Senate seat leans Democratic. Flanagan is up against Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) in the primary, and both have picked up large-name finishorsements. Flanagan has the support of former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, former Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Warren. Craig has the backing of Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Craig has a cash advantage. As of June 30, the most recent reporting period, her campaign had more than $1.8 million in cash on hand, compared with Flanagan’s roughly $783,000.
