$10M fund bets on untested mobile studios before they can prove ad performance

Mika Games gets $10M boost to support mobile game developers

Mika Games has secured $10 million to fund mobile game studios that traditional investors often overlook. The gaming investment firm, launched by Wargaming co-founder Nick Katselapov, closed the round with Flint Capital leading and a mix of returning and new backers participating.

Early-stage mobile developers face a persistent financing wall. Lenders and investors typically demand proof of marketing competence before writing checks, including months of campaign performance data and prior spending between $300,000 and $500,000. Studios without that track record frequently stall before reaching players.

Katselapov structured Mika Games specifically to bridge that divide. The firm deploys equity capital for product work and studio operations, then layers in separate funding for paid user acquisition campaigns. Those campaigns generate retention and monetization data, along with marketing payback metrics, which studios can then use to unlock larger growth financing.

User acquisition costs keep climbing, meanwhile fewer new titles crack the top download charts. As a result, visibility has become the defining challenge for mobile launches. Katselapov said early marketing capital can determine which games players ever see, and his firm aims to give new titles enough runway to reach an audience.

Mika Games has already grown its portfolio from three studios to five this year. Guli Games, creator of the 3D farming title Legendale, counts more than 3 million players worldwide. Agonalea Games crossed 500,000 downloads with its roguelike tower defense game Punko. The firm also backs Bulberry Studio, developer of the hybrid strategy title Wargard, and LevelApp, which produces merge-2 games including Merge Dale and Sea Bloom.

The fresh capital will push product development forward and fund larger marketing pushes across the portfolio. Those efforts aim to test commercial viability and expand each title’s player base, positioning studios for their next financing round.
