TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Video-sharing platform YouTube is reportedly adopting a new tactic to attract more premium subscribers and ad viewers. However, this tactic has drawn criticism from some utilizers for creating browsing the platform difficult.
This phenomenon has become a hot topic in online forums such as the Reddit community. An Android Authority review on February 16, 2026, also revealed another issue where the comments and description sections below videos suddenly disappear or fail to load when their ad blockers are active.
A temporary solution found by utilizers is to disable their ad blockers. Once the blocker is disabled, the comments and description sections reappear and function normally.
“YouTube’s actions are further reinforced by numerous forum posts and posts stating that comments will reappear when the ad blocker is disabled, clearly indicating the video giant’s efforts to discourage ad blocker utilize,” reads the Android Authority analyst review.
It is currently unclear whether the disappearance of comments is a deliberate feature by Google or simply a technical bug cautilized by a YouTube system update. Furthermore, this disruption could be cautilized by an ad-blocking script accidentally interrupting the code required to load video comments and description elements.
YouTube itself has not yet issued an official statement specifically regarding the disappearance of the comments section. However, this disruption pattern aligns with their aggressive push to encourage utilizers to switch to the paid YouTube Premium service or accept ad views as a legitimate content monetization model.
