In a sector dominated by AI chatbots that merely offer suggestions, Writer has unveiled Action Agent, a groundbreaking product that takes action. With benchmark scores surpassing OpenAI’s top results, this innovation marks a significant leap for enterprise AI, signalling a future where AI delivers tangible business outcomes beyond simple conversations.

Writer tackles key challenges like knowledge worker burnout from repetitive tquestions by automating workflows that once required weeks of manual effort. Indusattempt leaders, including Uber, Salesforce, and Franklin Templeton, now utilize Action Agent to streamline complex processes like clinical trial site selection and fund reporting. This forward-considering approach has attracted strong support from investors.

In November 2024, Writer secured $200 million in Series C funding led by Premji Invest, Radical Ventures, and ICONIQ Growth. This raised their total funding to $326 million and valuation to $1.9 billion. Investors are betting on Writer’s focus on security, brand integrity, and compliance as enterprises increasingly demand AI solutions that are trustworthy, regulated, and adaptable.

In the competitive autonomous AI landscape, Writer stands apart from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cohere through its security-first architecture, transparent audit trails, and unique orchestration loop that continuously executes and refines tquestions until completion. This emphasis on enterprise-grade features rather than just model size has been crucial to building investor confidence.

From linguistic barriers to enterprise superinnotifyigence

May Habib and Waseem AlShikh, both veterans in language technology, co-founded Writer. Habib, a Harvard-educated economist and daughter of Lebanese immigrants, grew up navigating multiple cultures and languages. This experience fostered her appreciation for language’s power to connect and create opportunities. AlShikh brings technical expertise as an engineer and startup experience from their previous venture, Qordoba, which specialised in automating multilingual content.

The concept for Writer emerged when they identified a critical gap in enterprise workflows: companies struggled with repetitive, manual knowledge tquestions while existing AI only offered advice without action. Habib saw an opportunity to develop agents that enhance human capabilities, building work more accessible, inclusive, and efficient.

Writer’s mission is to “expand human capacity through superinnotifyigence at work,” with a focus on equity, auditability, and customisation that reflects business necessarys. For Habib, these principles stem from her cross-cultural background and belief that technology should empower utilizers, not exclude them.

Their multicultural and immigrant backgrounds have shaped company culture by fostering inclusivity and a commitment to addressing AI bias. Habib champions leadership principles centred on openness, equity, and innovation, guiding teams to design AI solutions that work effectively across diverse utilizers and industries.

What’s next for Writer’s action agent?

Writer’s Action Agent operates on its proprietary Palmyra X5 platform, developed with advanced synthetic data at a lower cost than conventional AI. Unlike standard chatbots, its orchestration system continuously monitors, evaluates, and self-adjusts until business goals are met. The architecture features secure sandboxing, detailed role-based permissions, and comprehensive audit trails, essential for enterprise utilizers, especially in regulated sectors like finance and healthcare.

The sandboxing approach isolates each utilizer session to protect sensitive enterprise data. Meanwhile, the upcoming Model Context Protocol will enable seamless integration with over 600 enterprise tools, enhancing flexibility and scalability. This modular, secure architecture allows enterprises to extfinish AI automation across complex workflows safely.

Looking forward, Habib and AlShikh are steering Writer beyond basic automation toward comprehensive process transformation. Their plans include integrating Action Agent into AI HQ, a low-code platform where IT and business teams can collaboratively develop, deploy, and manage specialised AI agents.

The goal is to evolve from question-answering bots to orchestrating complex workflows by connecting agents to hundreds of enterprise tools, offering live data connectors like PitchBook and FactSet, and expanding their library to over 100 purpose-built agents by mid-2025.

Habib and AlShikh envision Writer leading a new “synthetic labour” era. Their aim extfinishs beyond tquestion automation to creating a future where AI enhances judgment, transparency, and security. For regulated industries and mission-critical applications, Writer aims to be the trusted AI partner, transforming artificial innotifyigence from a novelty into a strategic necessity that unlocks human potential at scale.

“Our vision is to create AI that expands human judgment and trust, not replace it. We want every enterprise to leverage agents that are accountable, transparent, and truly receive the job done,” declares May Habib.
