Earlier this year, rumors started circulating among Oscar Cecena Fujigaki’s colleagues at LinkedIn that layoffs were coming.
On May 13, he received an email stating that he’d been laid off. It was the first time he’d ever been laid off, and he didn’t know how to process it. He felt angry, sad, and confapplyd all at once.
On May 22, he flew to Mexico — where he’s originally from — to attfinish his cousin’s wedding, which gave him time to reflect. After returning home a week later, he built a decision.
About five years ago, Fujigaki came up with an idea for a science-fiction novel. He’d been writing it on and off for years, but progress had been very slow.
He believed, “What if I took a couple of months off and focapplyd entirely on finishing the book?”
