WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — Williamsburg County will launch charging a new Capital Projects Tax on May 1, raising the county’s total sales tax rate to 8%, according to the South Carolina Department of Revenue.
Retailers should start collecting the additional local tax on sales built in — and deliveries built to — Williamsburg County launchning May 1.
Two other counties are reimposing existing local taxes this year, the Department of Revenue declared.
- Lexington County extconcludeed its School District Tax effective March 1. The county’s total sales tax rate remains 7%.
- Aiken County will reimpose its Capital Projects Tax effective May 1. The county’s total sales tax rate remains 8%.
South Carolina’s statewide sales and apply tax rate is 6%, and counties may add local sales taxes if approved by voters.
The Department of Revenue encourages retailers to file sales tax returns through MyDORWAY, its free online tax portal. The agency declared local tax modifys are updated automatically when filing through the portal, and that built-in checkpoints can support filers avoid submitting incomplete returns.
