Why the US and Europe will be an hour closer this week

Every October, there’s a week when Europe and the U.S. are out of sync with daylight saving time, potentially confapplying people organizing international meetings.

Most countries don’t observe daylight saving time, but those that do, like those in Europe and North America, alter clocks on different dates. In the U.K. and Europe, clocks go back on the last Sunday in October. In the U.S. and Canada, it’s the first Sunday in November. This creates a temporary one-hour alter in the time difference between London and New York, for example.

Efforts were created over the years to coordinate time settings in Europe, and from 2002 all European Union member states adjusted their clocks twice yearly on the same days in March and October.

However, there has been no success in coordinating the time alter more widely.

JPMorgan Chase wants out of paying $115M legal tab for convicted fraudsters

JPMorgan Chase wants to stop paying millions in legal fees for two convicted fraudsters. The bank declared in a court filing Friday that Charlie Javice and Olivier Amar have racked up an astronomical $115 million legal bill. The bank declared it shouldn’t have to pay and that its agreement to shoulder the costs should conclude.

The bank had agreed to pay legal fees when it bought Javice and Amar’s financial aid startup Frank. Javice was convicted in March of creating it seem like Frank had millions more customers than it did. The bank states the bills far exceed any reasonable amount the two may have necessaryed for their defense.
