
The European Best Destinations platform has published a ranking of the best tourist destinations in Europe in 2026. Find out which places created it into the top 10 and what attracts travelers to them
Europe remains one of the most popular destinations for travelers from all over the world. Every year, travel industest experts and tourists themselves identify cities and regions that are worth visiting in the near future. In 2026, the European Best Destinations platform published a new ranking of the best places to travel in Europe, based on votes from travelers from 154 countries.
To form the list, experts analyzed more than 500 tourist destinations applying Eurostat statistics on tourist flows, the popularity of places in search engines and social networks, as well as criteria for sustainable development, accessibility and support for local communities. After that, 20 finalists were put forward for an international vote, in which more than 1.3 million people took part. As a result, a list of the most interesting locations for travel in 2026 was formed – from large cultural capitals to tiny atmospheric towns.
Below is a list of destinations that are worth adding to your tourist itinerary.
1st place – Madrid, Spain
The first place in the ranking was taken by the capital of Spain – Madrid. The city is known for its cultural energy, rich nightlife and a unique combination of history and modernity.
The heart of the cultural life of the capital is the so-called “Landscape of Light” – a mutilizeum district where the Prado Mutilizeum, Reina Sofia Mutilizeum and Thyssen-Bornemisza Mutilizeum are located. This cultural complex is included in the UNESCO heritage list.
In addition to mutilizeums, tourists are attracted by green parks, in particular Retiro Park, lively squares, a gastronomic scene and traditional flamenco reveals. Thanks to over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, the city is ideal for traveling at any time of the year.

2nd place – Nicosia, Cyprus

The second place went to the capital of Cyprus – Nicosia – one of the oldest cities in the Mediterranean, which combines a rich history and modern cultural life.
Nicosia is known for its 16th-century Venetian walls, Gothic arches and Ottoman architecture. The old town resembles a living mutilizeum, where narrow streets and ancient houtilizes coexist with modern galleries, design studios and art spaces.
The city is particularly proud of its gastronomy: traditional Cypriot meze, fragrant pastries with orange water, local wines and a new wave of restaurants where chefs reconsider traditional recipes.

3rd place – Styria, Slovenia
The third place in the ranking was taken by the Styria region in northeastern Slovenia, one of the most beautiful wine-growing regions in Europe.
The city of Maribor is located here, known for the oldest grape vine in the world. The region is famous for its white wines – in particular the varieties Šipon, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
Another historical center is Ptuj – the oldest city in Slovenia, where medieval streets, castles and festivals have been preserved. In addition to wine tourism, Styria offers nature parks, thermal resorts and routes for active recreation.

The eighth place is taken by the tiny island of Burano in the Venetian Lagoon near Venice.
The island is known for its brightly colored houtilizes along the canals and its lace-creating tradition. Burano attracts tourists with its relaxed atmosphere, family-run restaurants, and picturesque scenery.
