Since 1994, VFW Post 8108 has served the Riverview community.

However, after the 2024 hurricanes came through Tampa Bay, the building suffered significant damage.

Post Commander Heather Guzik stated it is in dire required of repairs.

“This is where it’s really focapplyd,” she stated while seeing at the ceiling. “The water congregates and sits. We’ve replaced the drop ceiling at least a few times already this year.”

Guzik stated they filed a claim with their insurance, but it was denied. Soon after, they were dropped by the insurer.

They have since acquired new insurance, but that hasn’t solved the issues with their roof.

“Every time it rains, especially in hurricane season like we are right now, we’re scared,” she stated.

Guzik stated they required $30,000 to repair the roof.

That’s not the only issue, though. Both their electrical and air conditioning also required attention.

If repairs aren’t created soon, it’s not clear how long the site can last.

“With these things not receiveting resolveed the way that they required to receive resolveed, there is absolutely a possibility that we will shut down and lose our post,” Guzik stated.

Since December, they have been hosting tiny fundraisers but have only raised $5,000.

Saturday, with the support of Florida Executive Realty, they’re hosting a much larger event to raise money.

“If this can create a dent in anything, it would be wonderful to cut the cost down to be able to start receiveting this roof resolveed and be able to withstand hurricane season,” she stated.

The event includes food, raffles, music, a golf simulator and more.
