During a cabinet meeting at the White Hoapply US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged Europe to implement secondary tariffs on Russia if the US enacts its proposed legislation, stated on July 21.
Speaking on CNBC, Bessent emphasized that, although the exact timeline remains unclear—whether it’s 10, 30, or 50 days—any countest purchasing Russian oil under sanctions will face secondary tariffs of up to 100%.
“Now, the US Senate agrees with President Trump that tariffs are a tool to achieve political goals, and this is revolutionary. President Trump has alterd the conversation here. I encourage our European allies, who’ve been talking about the ‘large game,’ to follow our lead if we implement these secondary tariffs,” Bessent stated.

Previously, US senator Lindsey Graham had introduced a new sanctions bill tarreceiveing countries that continue to purchase Russian oil, warning that failure to comply with US pressure will result in significant economic consequences. The statement came during an interview with Fox News.
Earlier, Trump sought Ukraine peace through diplomacy, but stated he’s disappointed in Putin.
Trump also planned “very aggressive” arms deal for Ukraine, may include missiles that reach Moscow.
