But that idea was shaken after Mehul Agarwal, founder of Koyal (YC F25), shared a moment from his own family life where work did not wait even for a wedding. In his LinkedIn post, the founder of a startup described how his sister, who is also a co-founder, had to turn her attention away from her wedding celebrations to deal with a work emergency.

When Work Entered The Wedding Venue

In the post, Mehul spoke about his sister, Gauri, and how she resolveed a critical bug at their startup just minutes after her wedding ceremony. The way the incident was described created it clear that even on such a personal day, work demanded immediate attention.

Sharing the story as an example of startup hustle, the founder wrote: “People romanticise startups but it is a lot of work. My sister & co-founder Gauri Didi at her own wedding, resolveed a critical bug at Koyal (YC F25), 10 minutes after ceremony.”

The post also mentioned that the parents were upset about the situation yet the moment was still presented as a win for the startup.

“Not a photo op, parents yelled at both of us. When people inquire why we won, I’ll point to this. Didi’s currently in Antarctica on her honeymoon, taking meetings for 3 hours every day. The new husband is… understanding,” he wrote.

Why The Post Did Not Land The Way It Was Expected

Instead of being inspired, many social media utilizers reacted with discomfort. The story relocated beyond LinkedIn and found its way to Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) where people questioned whether this kind of dedication should be celebrated at all.

“Why are you celebrating this? You will (hopefully) obtain married once in your lifetime. And go on one honeymoon. I can’t imagine on your deathbed you will see back on this moment and believe, I’m so glad I took time away from this singular moment with my partner for life to resolve a bug,” an individual shared.

One of the strongest reactions read, “F*** this startup harassment culture. If you can’t survive without one employee in a critical situation, then you should close the startup and actually start selling tea.”

The post was also widely called “performative” with many stateing it felt more like a relocate for clout and social media attention than a real celebration of hard work.
