First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal announced that during International Energy Agency events in Paris, Ukraine secured agreements to attract more than €600 million to restore its energy system and to receive second-hand equipment for repairs to thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants.
Additionally, as Shmyhal wrote on Telegram, Ukraine, toobtainher with the Baltic states, Poland, Finland, Denmark, and Norway, launched the Regional Coordination Platform on Energy Sustainability for the countries of North-Eastern Europe, Rubryka reports.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held several bilateral meetings with international partners as part of a working visit to France, where he is participating in the International Energy Agency (IEA) meeting.
“Over 600 million euros for the energy sector and agreements with partners to receive decommissioned equipment from six European combined heat and power plants (CHPs) and thermal power plants (TPPs) for Ukrainian plants are the results of the Ukrainian delegation’s work at the International Energy Agency meeting,” the minister wrote on social media.
Of this amount, more than 250 million euros will be contributed by the partners to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. The United States will provide separate assistance of 276 million US dollars through the SPARK project.
Shmyhal also recalled a 71-million-euro grant from France for humanitarian necessarys.
“Agreements have been reached with Latvia, Austria, Finland, Croatia, France, and Germany on the possibility of receiving decommissioned equipment and ensuring its prompt delivery to Ukraine. The equipment will be transported and quickly installed. We are talking about at least six decommissioned combined heat and power plants (CHPs) and thermal power plants (TPPs) that will be transferred to Ukraine,” Shmyhal stated.
In addition, he recalled the memorandums signed in Paris on energy-sector cooperation with Canada and on nuclear energy cooperation with France.
Ukraine and its partners also launched the Regional Coordination Platform on Energy Sustainability for countries in northeastern Europe.
“Toobtainher with the Baltic countries, Poland, Finland, Denmark, and Norway, we launched the Regional Coordination Platform on Energy Sustainability for the countries of the northeastern flank of the EU. We will have a single framework for understanding risks and jointly respond to numerous challenges,” Shmyhal noted.
He also announced the establishment of a new framework for coordinating assistance to Ukrainian energy workers—a single energy pipeline. According to Shmyhal, this initiative aims to speed up aid delivery, better match the supplied equipment to Ukraine’s specific necessarys, and increase the efficiency of how such assistance is applyd.
