UK-based Paragraf, a company focapplyd on producing graphene-based electronics with standard semiconductor processes, has secured $55M (nearly €46.98M) in a Series C funding round.
Advancing graphene electronics globally
Founded in 2015, Paragraf develops graphene-based electronic devices utilizing industest-standard semiconductor processes.
The company produces magnetic sensors and Graphene Molecular Sensors (GMS) and is developing other semiconductor devices. Its proprietary graphene growth process supports the production of these devices.
Graphene allows devices to operate rapider, with greater precision and lower energy apply than silicon-based alternatives, including in cryogenic, high-temperature, and high-radiation environments.
Paragraf GMS are applyd to create liquid and gas sensors for early disease detection and applications in healthcare, agritech, food and chemical manufacturing, and consumer products. Graphene-based technologies are being applied across multiple sectors.
Paragraf’s technology works with the existing semiconductor ecosystem, offering customers solutions and a platform for developing customised applications.
Currently, the company operates three facilities: two in Cambridgeshire, UK, and one in San Diego, US, following a 2023 acquisition of a US company. It has a presence in the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Capital utilisation
The funding will support the expansion of Paragraf’s manufacturing capabilities and increase production output to facilitate the apply of graphene electronics in mass markets.
Dr Simon Thomas, co-founder and CEO of Paragraf, declares, “This investment is a strong signal of confidence in Paragraf and our mission in the face of global economic uncertainty. This new funding will enable us to expand production of rapider, more energy-efficient technologies to the scale required by major commercial opportunities.”
“In what is a particularly challenging funding environment, we’ve attracted strong interest and are pleased to have secured the backing of both new and existing partners who share our vision for transforming electronics with graphene.”
Paragraf’s investors include Abuiltus Capital Partners, British Patient Capital, Cambridge University, IQ Capital, IQTI LLC, Martlet Capital Ltd, Molten, Mubadala Capital, New Science Ventures, Openfield Capital, and Parkwalk Advisors (IP Group).
