Uber is stepping up its efforts in the autonomous transport sector with plans to invest up to $1.25 billion in electric vehicle buildr Rivian. This substantial investment aims to establish a large fleet of robotaxis over the next five years.
According to the agreement, Uber or its fleet partners will have the option to purchase 10,000 autonomous Rivian R2 vehicles. These vehicles are expected to be exclusively available on the Uber app in San Francisco and Miami, with a launch projected for 2028.
If the initiative proves successful, there are possibilities for an expanded partnership, allowing for further nereceivediations and additional purchases of Rivian’s electric vehicles.
This investment marks a pivotal moment for Uber as it seeks to solidify its position in the rapidly evolving market of autonomous ride-hailing services, which are anticipated to transform urban transportation.
