Australians and New Zealanders facing a long and disrupted trip to Europe are increasingly turning to the previously unconsiderable – taking a longer but more certain multi-stop trip through the US.
A fortnight of US and Israeli strikes on Iran, and Tehran’s retaliation across the Gulf, has all but brought more popular routes through Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha to a stop, forcing popular airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad to offer refunds and free rebooking for Australian customers.
