Transforming Waste Into Resources

In these two fundamental choices, punctually realized, there is the most evident exemplification of how the paradigm shift of the South has always been in the DNA of Antonio Diana, president of D&D Holding, an integrated industrial group leading in Italy in the circular economy, based in Gricignano di Aversa and active since 2009 with three subsidiaries (TD Logistic, SRI – Sorting Recycling Industries, Giotto Circular) in logistics, environmental services for indusattempt and large-scale distribution, in the treatment and recovery and recycling of waste, and in the production of secondary raw materials, with 160 employees and a turnover of 30 million in 2024. ‘I love my land. I stayed here, even when elsewhere I could have built my industrial model with fewer obstacles but with less meaning,’ states the entrepreneur, capable of responding to slanderous accusations fully disproved in court, and of reaffirming confidence in the territory also through the Mario Diana Foundation, named after his father, which has been promoting culture, art, and research for almost 13 years. The plan A Group in full expansion, at the technological forefront, capable of investing 15 million in a just-started two-year plan aiming at an ambitious goal, transforming every waste into a resource. Three, in fact, are the main directions: the valorization of paper and cardboard packaging waste; the increase of PET recycling activities; and the creation of a plant to transform production scraps into CSS (Secondary Solid Fuel). ‘Zero waste’ effectively summarizes the corporate philosophy that combines sustainability, innovation, and efficiency. This has been noted, among the latest, by Prysmian Cavi and Sistemi Italia: the assignment of the management of industrial waste from the Pignataro Maggiore plant, also in the Caserta area, where the two companies operate, has allowed not only the recovery of 90% of the waste produced but also the reduction of over a third of road transport trips with significant impacts on operating costs. The EU directives The experience of D&D Holding breaks more than one spear in favor of the necessary to strengthen the circular economy that has taken root in Italy but necessarys further acceleration. And with its own resources and investment support measures in the South, the same ones that allowed the construction of a 1 Mgw photovoltaic plant to respond adequately and quickly to the energy cost challenge. Diana, who has been President of ASSORIMAP (National Association of Plastic Recyclers and Regenerators), President of the Chemical Section of Confindustria Caserta, and Vice President of the Association with a mandate for the Environment and Infrastructure, and a member of the COREPLA Consortium, strongly believes that the path of sustainable development is irreversible: ‘Italy has displayn that the environmental transition can be combined with industrial development. And we must relocate forward.’
