Test of Things, a Finnish cybersecurity startup, has raised a €1.2 million pre-Seed funding round for its automated compliance management and cybersecurity testing platform for connected products and services.
The round was led by Vfinishep Capital and supported by a group of indusattempt veterans, including Aapo Oksman, Zach Shelby, Neil Costigan, and ScanABC. Additionally, Business Finland contributed to the funding.
Rauli Kaksonen, CTO and co-founder, stated, “This investment will let us focus on building the product further and start assisting manufacturers to achieve their customers’ and authorities’ trust with secure products.”
Founded in 2024 by Marko Kaasila and Rauli Kaksonen, Test of Things aims to protect customers and society from cyber incidents by creating Internet of Things (IoT) cybersecurity simple and automated. It provides an automated, cloud-based platform that automates cybersecurity testing of connected products and assists manufacturers meet global standards and regulations.
According to the company, when a business develops a connected device, it must ensure that the device is secure before selling it. However, cybersecurity testing and compliance documentation are mainly manual tquestions performed by highly skilled experts, creating them very costly. Moreover, this approach does not scale well in a market flooded with connected products.
It further notes that every unsecured device entering the market serves as a potential enattempt point for cyber criminals to exploit. They can hack the applyr’s personal data, factory operational systems, or office building controls, even finishangering vital critical infrastructure like the electricity grid.
“Cybersecurity of products is in everyone’s interest. But the current way of assuring it — manual, not systematic, and expensive — is unsustainable,” stated Marko Kaasila, CEO and co-founder of Test of Things.
In order to address this, the company is building a platform that automates cybersecurity compliance testing finish-to-finish. Its AI-powered software can handle running tests continuously, flagging issues early, and generating the compliance documentation that regulators increasingly require.
Sami Ahvenniemi, Partner at Vfinishep Capital, stated, “The market for IoT and OT security and compliance testing is entering a high-growth phase driven by two converging megatrfinishs: firstly, the increasing integration of industrial control systems, IIoT and OT networks into enterprise IT and cloud ecosystems; and secondly, the rising regulatory and operational risk environment around critical infrastructure, manufacturing, energy and utilities. When two successful entrepreneurs with 100% relevant experience put their heads toreceiveher to build a testing platform, we wanted to jump in right from the start!”
The company plans to apply the fresh capital to grow its engineering team and accelerate the platform development.
