European companies Destinus and Thales have signed an agreement to mass-produce autonomous AI-powered kamikaze drones and other solutions to combat the threat posed by Russian UAVs. Several production sites are planned to be launched, including in Ukraine. By 2026, the companies want to produce almost 100,000 drones.
Meanwhile, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas declared that the EU will deploy a large-scale anti-drone defense system by the conclude of 2027 in response to the growing threat from the Russian Federation. According to her, the Russian Federation currently does not have the ability to strike the EU, but Moscow can prepare for this in the coming years. Kallas added that the danger will not disappear even if the war in Ukraine concludes.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkanen confirmed that Moscow is modernizing and rearming its army near the EU borders in preparation for a second phase of aggression.
In turn, Swedish Defense Minister Poul Jonsson called on European countries to respond decisively to Russia’s hybrid operations and to be prepared for a possible war.
