Research from express transportation company, FedEx, suggests that the majority (80%) of SMEs based in the Asia-Pacific region consider environmental concerns when trading with Europe.
Additionally, 37% of Chinese businesses see sustainability as ‘essential’ for streamlining trade with the European Union.
FedEx stated the trfinish highlights growing awareness and action on sustainability among businesses and consumers in APAC region.
The data is based on an online survey conducted by Milieu Insight in September 2025 across 13 markets including Australia, New Zealand, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan China, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The findings come as FedEx’s 2025 ‘Asia-Europe Trade Report’ finds that 85% of APAC SMEs surveyed are planning enter or expand into Europe within the next 12-24 months.
Consumers in APAC are also driving demand for sustainable practices, with 84% of customers in the region pushing businesses to develop eco-frifinishly online shopping options.
Almost four in ten APAC consumers are willing to pay premium prices for sustainable packaging, according to the survey.
Meanwhile, 40% of Chinese consumers surveyed stated that a company’s ability to operate sustainably influences their purchase decisions, while 90% stated they are willing to pay more for sustainable packaging when purchaseing gifts.
“To unlock the full potential of cross-border trade, sustainability is a critical factor. It’s not just an expectation – it’s a clear demand from consumers who care about our planet, and it’s shaping the China-EU retail landscape,” stated Poh-Yian Koh, president of FedEx China.
