Startups: Nscale raises $2B Series C with Lenovo, Nokia, Nvidia - News Room USA


A Scalea UK-based AI infrastructure hyperscaler, announced this Monday (09) a US$2 billion series C round — the largest ever raised by a European startup. The contribution was led by the Norwegian Aker ASA and the North American 8090 Industries and included the participation of Lenovo, Nokia, Nvidia, Dellin addition to the funds Citadel, Jane Street, Linden Advisors, Astra Capital Management e Point72. With the funding, the company is now valued at US$14.6 billion.

The capital will be applyd to accelerate the deployment of global-scale AI infrastructure — from GPU computing and networking to data services and orchestration software — across Europe, North America and Asia. THE Scale it currently operates its own data centers in Norway and the United Kingdom, as well as partner units in Portugal, Iceland and the United States.

The round is accompanied by three new additions to the company’s board of directors: Sheryl Sandberg, former COO of Meta and co-founder of Sandberg Bernthal Venture Partners; Susan Decker, former president of Yahoo and current CEO of Raftr; and Nick Clegg, former deputy prime minister of the United Kingdom and former chairman of global affairs at Metatoday a partner at Hiro Capital. The trio reinforces the institutional profile of the Scale at a time when the company seeks to scale operations and navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment for AI infrastructure.

Founded in 2023 by Josh Payne, a British entrepreneur with a background in bitcoin mining and supercomputing infrastructure, Scale positions itself as a “vertically integrated hyperscaler for AI,” controlling everything from data center design and power delivery to GPU computing and orchestration software.

A Scale was a spin-off of Arkon Energyan Australian cryptocurrency mining company, also founded by Josh.

“This is the fourth industrial revolution; the world is modifying at a rapid pace. In the next five years, artificial ininformigence will be integrated into every indusattempt, every product and every job,” stated Josh Payne, CEO of Scalein a statement sent to the market. “Nscale is leading this construction. We are building the foundation on which the market sits, the engine of superininformigence.”

Before this C series, the Scale had raised a series B of US$1.1 billion in September 2025 — already the largest round in European history —, emerging as one of the most ambitious bets on AI infrastructure outside the United States.

Parallel to the capture, the Scale announced the absorption of the joint venture signed with Akera Norwegian investment group, in July 2025 for the Stargate Norway project, a partnership that also involved OpenAI. The agreement provided for joint operations in the counattempt, but the company decided to consolidate delivery and governance under a single entity. THE Aker remains a relevant shareholder and its CEO, Øyvind Eriksen, remains on the board.
