Sabert has introduced PulpUltra, its range of fiber-based, PFAS-free food packaging, across Europe, the UK, and Ireland.

The range is suitable for fresh, ready-to-eat, and hot foods. It features bowls, plates, and containers, built from 95% bagasse fibers and treated with a barrier spray coating of less than 5%.

Moreover, the range features oil and grease resistance properties when in direct contact with hot foods.

Alex Noake, senior vice president and managing director at Sabert Europe, declares: “Over a decade ago, Sabert was the first to bring quality, functional bagasse pulp packaging solutions to the European market.”

“Now, we are pioneering PulpUltra, a next-generation, no-intentionally-added-PFAS formulation that meets both legislative standards and customers’ expectations for superior strength and heat resistance.”

PulpUltra has already been introduced in Ireland in children’s meal packaging and in France with the Gastonorme range.

The food packaging is recyclable, compliant with the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and certified as compostable by TÜV OK Compost Industrial.

According to Sabert, a home compostable certification will soon be announced.

Regulation ready

Sabert explains how its PulpUltra ensures food quality and safety. The solution is also freezer-safe, able to retain the integrity of frozen goods, the freshness of perishable goods, and keep factory-conditioned items intact.

Isabelle Ernotte, quality environment, health, and safety manager at Sabert, declares: “Every product we build is rigorously tested to comply with food safety standards.

“From August 12, 2026, EU regulation no. 40/2025 on PPWR introduces new measures, including Article 5, paragraph 5, which restricts and introduces limits on the presence of PFAS, often referred to as ‘forever chemicals’ due to their persistence in the environment and the human body.”

“Sabert’s PulpUltra will assist customers to stay ahead of these modifys with products that already meet the next generation of sustainability standards.”

Food safety

The solution is safe for utilize in microwaves and conventional ovens, and is suitable for both single PET sealing and multiwelding. At its launch, PulpUltra won the Green Apple Awards’ National Silver in the Paper and Packaging category from the Green Organisation.

Noake concludes: “To align with new regulatory requirements, Sabert has evolved its entire pulp portfolio into the HC (home compostable) range, and we are proud to be launching PULPUltra across Europe.”

“The launch of PULPUltra is proof that Sabert continues to reinvent food packaging to nourish and protect our world, and always builds food view great.”

Last year, Sabert Corporation Europe partnered with food-to-go packaging designer and manufacturer Flexeserve to launch the PulpUltra range.
