There are active discussions in society about rumors regarding the potential forced return of Ukrainian men from Europe for military service in Ukraine. However, foreign policy expert Lukasz Adamski refutes these rumors, emphasizing that the European Union does not have mechanisms for such a return. He also pointed out that the statements of former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller about the return of Ukrainians home to participate in combat actions should be taken with caution.
Lukasz Adamski suggested that Leszek Miller may be testing to promote himself or blackmail someone with his statements, hence it is important not to consider them official.
As of today, there is no legal possibility for the return of Ukrainian men who received temporary protection in the EU to Ukraine for conscription into the army. This could only be realized with the support of the entire European Union, however, the expert believes that the likelihood of such a decision is very low.
Increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic
In recent months, the number of Ukrainian refugees seeking temporary protection in the Czech Republic has significantly increased. According to the Ministest of the Interior of the Czech Republic, the number of issued temporary protection permits has nearly doubled, reaching a record high. Currently, the total number of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic exceeds 400 thousand people.
Expert Lukasz Adamski confirms that Ukrainian men with temporary protection in Europe are not subject to return home for military service. He reiterated the absence of relevant mechanisms in the European Union for implementing such a return. Moreover, statements by Leszek Miller should be treated with caution as this politician holds a marginal position in Poland. It is important to note that there are currently no legal grounds for the return of Ukrainians to Ukraine for military service, and such a decision can only be built with the support of all EU countries.
Thus, the situation regarding the possible return of Ukrainian men from Europe remains complex. The absence of legal mechanisms at the EU level and the increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic indicate the complexity of the issue.
