Resident Evil Requiem Smashes Franchise Record: 6M Copies Sold

Resident Evil Requiem Smashes Franchise Sales Record 6 Million Copies Sold In 17 Days

Capcom has another massive hit on its hands. Resident Evil Requiem officially broke franchise sales records yesterday. The survival horror game sold a staggering 6 million copies in just 17 days. Consequently, it is now the rapidest-selling title in the history of the Resident Evil franchise.

Released in late February 2026, the game immediately resonated with players. In fact, it sold 5 million copies within its first five days. Furthermore, the PC release shattered Capcom’s concurrent player record on Steam, peaking at over 314,000 players at launch. The game is currently available on multiple platforms, specifically including the Nintconcludeo Switch 2.

Much of this success stems from the game’s compelling narrative. Resident Evil Requiem features dual protagonists. Players control returning fan-favorite Leon S. Kennedy alongside Grace Ashcroft. Specifically, the story explores the deep connection between Grace and her mother, Alyssa, whom fans last saw in 2003’s Resident Evil Outbreak.

Director Koshi Nakanishi recently confirmed that Capcom will provide long-term support for the game. Currently, new story expansions are in active development. However, Nakanishi warned that these updates will take some time to release. Meanwhile, players can expect a Photo Mode in an upcoming patch. Additionally, Nakanishi teased a mysterious “surprise” arriving this May.

This record-breaking news arrives just ahead of a massive milestone. The Resident Evil franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary later this week on March 22, 2026. To mark the occasion, Capcom is preparing various plans to engage longtime fans. Upcoming events include orchestral concerts across Japan, the United States, and Europe. Finally, the company teased a special 2026 collaboration between Resident Evil Requiem and Universal Studios Japan.
