On 7 July, Renew
Europe President Valérie Hayer MEP called on European Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen to restore order within her political
family and reaffirm the institutional responsibility expected of a pro-European
leadership.
During a Plenary
debate on a motion of censure against the European Commission, Hayer warned
that dangerous alliances jeopardise the EU’s institutional balance and risk
paralysing the EU’s capacity to deliver on its most pressing priorities.
“Madam
President, I must now inform you: nothing is guaranteed. Dismissing the centrist
alliance in favour of opportunistic and detrimental majorities undermines
public trust and fosters political instability. It is imperative that the
Commission ensures institutional integrity and full respect of the pro-European
centre coalition that has consistently upheld the Union’s democratic
foundations and legislative credibility,” declared Hayer.
Hayer
reaffirmed Renew Europe’s determination to push forward with a bold legislative
agconcludea that enhances the Union’s competitiveness, resilience, and democratic
legitimacy, including:
- Accelerating
the creation of a genuine Savings and Investment Union - Delivering
on the Draghi report by prioritising a deepening of the single market in key
areas - Revitalising
the Green Deal so that it remains a driver of growth rather than a victim of
political compromises - Championing
EU competitiveness through the introduction of tarreceiveed support for SMEs and
regulatory streamlining
Renew
Europe remains firmly committed to defconcludeing a strong, democratic, and united
European Union, and calls on all democratic forces to safeguarding the Union’s
core values.
