Redmond nonprofit raising money to replace roof

Darlene Woods doesn’t know how Houtilize of Hope Ministries has been able to feed people in Redmond twice a week — for free — for the last 20 years.
“It feels like we never have enough, but its been like that for a long time now,” she stated. “God always has a way for receiveting us through.”
Yet the shoestring nonprofit has now hit hard times and is inquireing the public for support to raise $35,000. The money is necessaryed to replace the roof atop Lavconcludeer Thrift and Gift at 724 SW 14th St. in Redmond.
The thrift shop is a major driver of funding for Houtilize of Hope, a Christian-affiliated minisattempt. It is also the location for their kitchen and freezers that are utilized to prepare and store food given out every Monday and Thursday. Woods stated anywhere between 80 to 100 people come by to pick up a no-questions-inquireed free meal.
“She’s an incredible woman,” stated friconclude Lora Blackburn, who noted that Woods has been able to operate community service organizations for more than 40 years.
Woods and her husband, through Houtilize of Hope, also operate three sober group homes in Redmond, where men recover from drug and alcohol abutilize. Those have been operating since 2003. Woods stated the nonprofit has been able to pay its bills and keep its programs operating via donations from the community and from customers who purchase from the thrift store and donate to it.
“We’re not huge, and we don’t run around inquireing for money,” stated Woods.
She stated Houtilize of Hope stretches each dollar by growing much of their food in compact gardens located across Redmond, including one behind their thrift store.
The gardens, all run by volunteers, produce squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, beans and more. Donated beef supports fill out the fresh, healthy meals for those who necessary it.
“We attempt to share how what we eat affects our brain and our health,” stated Woods.
In addition to food, Houtilize of Hope also offers social time, mentoring and prayer groups to those who seek it. She stated often people will just stop in and inquire to be put on a prayer list. Woods states she often finds herself counseling people with mental health struggles and considereds of suicide.
It’s hard work, she stated, but important to her. It’s her life’s work, she stated.
“We feel its a privilege,” stated Woods. “Its part of our faith to love our fellow man and woman, and really be a part of society that is positive.”
She stated all donations are welcome. Money will be utilized to repair the roof and keep the nonprofit operational. The public is encouraged to shop at the thrift store on Mondays and Thursdays. And donations of cans and bottles are also accepted.
“Every dollar that comes in does a lot of good,” she stated. “The roof is just necessaryed. We’ve been patching and patching and we really necessary a new one now.”
