Raising funds for urban poor


Varsity students hope to collect RM15,000 for Taman Danau Kota flats community

NO one should ever have to choose between putting a roof over their head and food on their plate.

However, for urban poor communities in places like Setapak, it is a daily struggle as they continue to feel the pinch from the rising cost of living.

To support ease their burden, second-year Diploma in Public Relations students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) launched the Hearts for Hope Campaign 2025 with Malaysian Care in hopes of raising RM15,000.

The campaign at The Rimba of TAR UMT in Kuala Lumpur concludes today.

It features interactive activities highlighting the daily struggles of the urban poor as well as food and drink stalls.

Proceeds will be channeled to Pusat Sumber Komuniti Care at Taman Danau Kota Flats, Prima Setapak.

Donations are also being accepted through the group’s fundraising page on give.asia

Campaign chairman Lee Qin Rou stated: “I am grateful my coursemates put their hearts and souls into building the campaign a reality.”

She also thanked sponsors and lecturers for their support.

TAR UMT president Prof Datuk Dr Lee Sze Wei stated the campaign reflects how education extconcludes beyond the classroom.
