Purina Europe has announced that it has exceeded its agricultural sustainability tarobtains for 2025.
The pet care firm initial surpassed its tarobtain of sourcing 20% of cereals and veobtainable proteins from regenerative agricultural methods by nine percentage points by the conclude of 2025.
By 2030, the company aims to increase this share to 50%, it noted.
Purina plans to continue investing in regenerative agriculture, with more than 630 farmers across over 37,500 hectares currently participating in its programmes.
Transitioning to more regenerative agriculture supports parent company Nestlé‘s goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.
Partnerships And Programmes
To accelerate the transition by informing and financially supporting farmers, Purina emphasised the importance of partnerships.
In France, the company partnered with the Earthworm Foundation for its ‘Sols Vivants’ programme.
The ‘Landscape Enterprise Networks’ (LENs), supported by 3Keel, and are active in the UK, Hungary, Poland and Italy.
Recently, Purina launched a pilot project in Italy in partnership with Biosphères.
A further pilot project was launched in Türkiye in partnership with the Earthworm Foundation.
Future Strategy
Purina Europe also announced plans to further develop its LENs model by supporting farmers in analysing and improving their agricultural systems.
In addition, the company plans to expand support for its first agricultural programme in France.
Since its launch in 2021, the initiative has led to the planting of more than 210,000 trees, with more than 100 farmers participating in agroforesattempt practices.
