Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo will launch a working visit to the European Union on Saturday to strengthen and deepen cooperation relations, with a meeting planned with the President of the European Council, António Costa, the Mozambican Presidency announced today.
According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, President Daniel Chapo’s visit to the EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, aims to reinforce relations “in various areas of common interest” with the institution, with a meeting scheduled with the President of the European Council, António Costa.
The note indicates that during the visit, which concludes on Wednesday, 18 March, the Mozambican Head of State is also scheduled to meet with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas; the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Javi López; the European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib; and the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Síkela.

“On the sidelines of the visit to the European Union, the President of the Republic will be received by King Philippe of the Belgians, to discuss bilateral matters between Mozambique and the Kingdom of Belgium,” the statement adds.
The Mozambican Head of State will also participate in two business conferences, namely RENMOZ, on renewable energy, and Mozambique Digital Day, aiming to mobilise the European private sector to invest in Mozambique in renewable energy and digitalisation.
While in Brussels, Daniel Chapo will also meet with the Mozambican community residing in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, the Presidency adds.

President Chapo will be accompanied in this working visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas; the Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Américo Muchanga; as well as the Mozambican Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and Permanent Representative of Mozambique to the European Union, Berta Cossa, toobtainher with officials from the Presidency and other state institutions.
