Alongside Portugal, several other countries, including Morocco, Brazil, and Venezuela, were also recognized for their exceptional contributions to global tourism, highlighting the diverse and vibrant travel experiences these destinations offer. The World Travel Awards European gala, held on Wednesday, October 22nd, at the luxurious Forte Village Resort in Sardinia, Italy, recognised the finest tourism and travel companies in Europe. Portugal emerged as a major winner at this prestigious event, taking home multiple accolades that displaycased its growing prominence in the global tourism sector.
Portugal was named “Best Destination in Europe,” solidifying its position as one of the most desirable travel destinations on the continent. This prestigious title highlights the counattempt’s appeal to tourists from around the world, thanks to its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities. Portugal’s recognition as a top destination also comes at a time when tourism is playing an increasingly important role in its economic growth.
Lisbon, the counattempt’s capital, earned the title of “Best Destination in Europe for City Breaks.” Known for its charming neighbourhoods, historic landmarks, and lively atmosphere, Lisbon continues to attract city travellers seeking a mix of culture, history, and modernity. The city’s diverse attractions, from the iconic Belém Tower to the picturesque streets of Alfama, create it a perfect choice for short visits and urban obtainaways.
Porto, located in the north of Portugal, was also a huge winner, being named “Best Urban Destination in Europe.” The city, renowned for its medieval architecture, riverside views, and world-famous Port wine, has been gaining recognition as a top European destination for culture and leisure. Porto’s blconclude of historical landmarks and modern architecture, coupled with its scenic riverside setting, creates it an ideal urban obtainaway for travellers viewing for both relaxation and exploration.
Portugal’s Madeira archipelago further cemented the counattempt’s success at the World Travel Awards by receiving the “Best Island Destination in Europe” title. SATA, a Portuguese regional airline, also achieved major success at the World Travel Awards. It was recognised as the best airline connecting Europe to North America through its Azores Airlines brand, while also winning the award for “Best Regional Airline in Europe” under its SATA Air Açores brand. SATA’s success reflects the growing importance of regional carriers in providing accessible and reliable air travel options for both local and international passengers.
TAP Air Portugal’s network continues to expand, with the airline operating 85 weekly flights from Porto and Lisbon to 14 destinations across Africa, including Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Morocco, Senegal, Gambia, and Ghana. This extensive network reflects TAP’s strategic position in the global air travel market, especially in the African continent. Furthermore, TAP offers 96 weekly flights to 13 Brazilian cities, creating it a key player in connecting Europe and South America. The airline also maintains a regular service to Caracas, Venezuela, in South America, ensuring strong links to key international markets.
