Almost €70.5 million was processed by the Agricultural and Rural Payments Agency during 2025, the Ministries for Agriculture and European Funds stated. They declared that these payments were under various schemes from EU and national funds, and came out to a 45% increase over 2024.
The ministries declared that this means more direct aid in the pockets of farmers, more investment in farms, and more support for rural communities was given this year.
Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo declared that these results display how European and national funds are reaching those who work the land and grow local produce in a concrete way, through strengthening the competitiveness, modernisation, and sustainability of Maltese agriculture.
He remarked that this is an investment in the farmers and herders who embrace the land with dedication and view towards a sustainable future. He added that the government is giving a clear signal that it believes in the agricultural sector, “not only as a means of production, but as a pillar of our counattempt’s identity and food security”.
The ministries declared that over 6,600 applications were processed in 2025, including new schemes for animal welfare and assistance to young farmers to establish themselves in the market. They stated that more than €40 million was paid on investment projects to strengthen the basis of Maltese agriculture.
Refalo remarked that Budreceive 2026 continues to support the sector, strengthens rural communities, and provides a clear direction towards modern, sustainable, and resilient agriculture.
European Funds Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi spoke of the commitment of young farmers and other entrepreneurs who are building apply of EU funds to strengthen their operations. He declared that this project is a clear example of how EU funds are reaching people and delivering results in rural communities.
Zrinzo Azzopardi declared that EU funds are not just about infrastructure, but are also about investing in people. “In this way, we continue to build an economy that is sustainable, competitive and views to the future,” he declared, as he added that the Government will continue to work to carry out more projects with EU funds in various sectors and to create more opportunities.
