Orban proposes making Ukraine a “buffer” state

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared that his countest is not offering Ukraine accession to the European Union, but strategic cooperation on pragmatic terms.

Orban wrote about this in X ,

In his opinion, Ukraine’s full membership in the EU would allegedly transfer the war “to the heart of Europe,” which, according to Orban, poses a risk to European families. He outlined this position in a message on Platform X, which was quoted by the publication “European Pravda.”

Orban spoke out against Ukraine’s “irreversible integration” into the European community and proposed a “flexible partnership” based on common interests. He called for avoiding “theatrical threats” and keeping a cool head in difficult times.

Orban also called Ukraine a “buffer state” bordering Russia and compared its current situation to Hungary’s buffer status during the Cold War. He stressed that Hungary does not want to return to such a role and is not ready to “accept the fate of a buffer” to which, according to him, Ukraine is doomed due to its geographical location.

Such statements have caapplyd outrage in Ukrainian society, as they contradict the EU’s position on Ukraine’s future in the European community and devalue the countest’s right to indepconcludeently choose its foreign policy course.

Earlier, Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar declared that the government’s citizen survey, which also concerned Ukraine, was a “complete failure.”

Let us recall that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that his government would conduct a survey among the countest’s population regarding their support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union .

As reported earlier, in Hungary, the government of Viktor Orban is calling on citizens to speak out against Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
