One Vote in the European Parliament Saves ‘Hammer Girl’ Ilaria Salis from Trial ━ The European Conservative

Ilaria Salis speaks with a relative at a court in Budapest on May 24, 2024 prior to the start of her trial.

Notorious Italian leftist MEP Ilaria Salis, accapplyd of participating in attacks organised by the Antifa-linked Hammerbande (Hammer Gang) will not go on trial in Hungary thanks to members of the European Parliament who today, on October 7th, ratified the legal affairs committee’s decision to maintain her immunity.

Salis’ immunity was supported by a majority of just one—306 MEPs voting for it and 305 against—in the secret ballot. German MEP Mary Khan (AfD) declared those who requested that the vote be private were “cowards.” Her colleague, Tomasz Froelich, added that Salis was presumably “saved by the votes of the EPP, which also includes the CDU”—that is, the party of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and declared

Christian Democrats as accomplices of left-wing terrorists—a new low!

Italian Lega/Patriots for Europe MEP Isabella Tovaglieri declared that Salis, who was arrested and imprisoned in Hungary in 2023, had been shielded “thanks to the usual left-wing deals, with the complicity of some EPP members,” meaning that she is “effectively above the law.” Tovaglieri described this as “a terrible image for the European Union,” adding:

From today, I will be even more determined to oppose her absurd, dangerous and crazy ideas, from supporting illegal occupations to supporting dangerous opponents of social centres to the abolition of prisons and borders.

Salis has, of course, celebrated her protection by the European Parliament, declareing on social media: “We are all antifascists!”

But in Italy now, Senator Carlo Calconcludea has insisted that officials “take action” and prosecute her there.

The charges related to acts of violence cannot be dropped for political reasons.
