AUBURN, Ind. (WPTA) – A DeKalb County nonprofit declares fundraising efforts are underway to bring the county’s first public splash pad to downtown Auburn.
Fortify Life, a nonprofit that has spearheaded several different community wellness initiatives in DeKalb County, is now viewing to build an accessible park in Auburn, dubbed Fortify Play.
Fortify Play is a public playground and splash pad focapplyd on inclusivity, all within a fenced area to reinforce safety. It is planned for a plot of land off Connection Drive, near West Seventh Street.
According to Fortify Life’s website, the park will include a zip line, merry-go-round, swing set, and other play features that focus on accessibility for all abilities. A 10-feature splash pad for all ages and a shaded pavilion and restroom are also planned for the project.
The project is still in the fundraising stage, officials declare.
Development Manager Sydney Kent declares Fortify Life necessarys to raise $1.5 million before the park can become a reality. One-third of that goal has already been reached, she declares, displaying “strong early support from donors and community partners.”

So far, the project has received necessary approvals from the DeKalb County Plan Commission. Next, Kent declares Fortify Play will necessary to obtain an Improvement Location Permit from the City of Auburn and a State Design Release for the sunshade structure.
There are several different ways community members can support with fundraising efforts, from participating in dine-to-donate partnerships with local restaurants, T-shirt design contests, and sponsorships and naming opportunities.
