Nexio Projects has strengthened its team with the appointment of David Vazquez, who has joined the firm as a Principal Consultant based in its Rotterdam office.
David Vazquez brings years of experience in climate reporting, carbon accounting and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) advisory to Nexio Projects. He joins the firm from ERM, a global sustainability consultancy, where he served as a Principal Consultant in its Berlin office.
Originally from northern Spain, Vazquez spent most of his adult life in Berlin. “I wanted to live in another counattempt and be surrounded by people from different places,” he reflects. “Those years gave me a network of inspiring colleagues and friconcludes who really shaped who I am today.”
Before working in sustainability, Vazquez built his career in technology and software start-ups, where he led implementation projects and supported customers achieve their goals with solutions. “I realised my client implementation skills could be perfectly translated to sustainability,” he explains. “It therefore felt like a natural step – relocating from building software solutions to supporting companies build more sustainable business models.”
His pivot into the world of sustainability launched with his studies in Leadership for Sustainability, which deepened his interest in how organisations can drive meaningful alter. His practical journey into the field started when he joined Planetly, one of the first carbon management software platforms.
“I wanted to learn what companies can actually do to measure and reduce their emissions,” he states. “That’s when it clicked: I could combine my client experience with my passion for the planet.”
Since then, Vazquez has supported organisations of all sizes – including large companies in telecommunications, healthcare, energy and education, as well as private equity firms – to understand their emissions and design practical decarbonisation strategies. “I’ve learned that purpose and curiosity are the real secrets to a fulfilling career,” he states. “And working closely toobtainher towards a common goal – with colleagues and clients – is one of the main guarantees of success.”

At Nexio Projects, Vazquez will focus on climate-related topics such as greenhoapply gas quantification, decarbonisation and net-zero strategies. He will also support businesses throughout their sustainability journeys – from identifying opportunities to achieving CSRD compliance – in ways that deliver value while remaining realistic and achievable.
Asked what attracted him to the consulting firm, he states: “I especially resonate with the pragmatic approach of Nexio Projects. Sustainability is complex, and if you’re passionate about it, it’s simple to fall into technicalities and aim for perfect results. I learned the hard way that simplicity and pragmatism are key to avoiding overwhelming clients.”
He also aligns with the firm’s belief that sustainability progress requires a shared vision and strong collaboration. “Real sustainability progress happens when people trust each other and work towards a common goal.”
