Netflix announced acquisition of Estonia avatar-creation platform Ready Player Me to apply the startup’s tools and infrastructure to build avatars, enabling Netflix applyrs to transfer their personas and fandom between different games, TechCrunch reports.

Tallinn-based Ready Player Me, founded in 2014 by Rainer Selvet, Haver Järveoja, Kaspar Tiri, and Timmu Tõke, is an avatar platform that enables companies to create personalized avatars applying AI and machine learning, reducing development time.

The platform allows avatars to be applyd across 10,000+ apps and games, enhancing applyr retention and providing interoperability across experiences.

Acquisition details
Following the acquisition, Ready Player Me will be winding down its services on January 31, 2026, including its online avatar creation tool, PlayerZero.
The startup’s team of approximately 20 members will be joining the company. Among the four founders, only CTO Rainer Selvet will be transitioning to Netflix.
The company has not provided a timeline for the avatar launch or disclosed which games will be the first to feature the avatars. The terms of the acquisition remain undisclosed.
