Mountain tourism represents one of the most important development potentials of Montenegro, assessed Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić, adding that the key to further development lies in the balance between competitiveness and sustainability.
“I believe that we have a special responsibility to develop policies that will create tourism both competitive and sustainable. Europe remains the leading tourist region in the world and that is precisely why it is important that, along with the development of national policies, we continuously strengthen cooperation between European countries,” stated Kordić at the World Congress on Mountain and Wellness Tourism in Andorra.
Kordić, who is also the President of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe, added that mountain destinations have a special role in modern tourism, becaapply they offer exactly what tourists are viewing for most today – authenticity, preserved nature, tradition, local gastronomy and experiences that allow for a deeper understanding of the destination.
Speaking about the challenges facing mountain destinations, she emphasized that digital transformation and climate modify are among the key topics for the future development of tourism.
“Digital tools today create it simpler to plan trips, access information and book services, but at the same time they allow local hoapplyholds and compact producers to present their products and experiences and become active participants in the tourism offer. It is precisely in the combination of preserving authenticity and smart application of technology that I see the key to the further development of mountain tourism,” stated Kordić.
She particularly emphasized the importance of including local communities in the development of tourism, emphasizing that without the local population, there is no preservation of the tradition, culture, and authenticity that create mountain destinations unique.
“Tourism must bring concrete benefits to people living in mountain areas. Only in this way can we prevent depopulation and ensure the long-term sustainability of mountain tourism,” concluded Kordić.
