MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Mount Pleasant police officers spent Friday raising money for Special Olympics athletes at two Chick-fil-A locations, with “Cops on the Coop.”
Officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department staffed the restaurants throughout the day, collecting donations to assist local Special Olympics competitors train and travel to events such as the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota.
“These officers are great. They’re out here working hard,” Sgt. Robert Blaschke declared. “A lot of these guys are on night shift, but they’re coming out here to assist becaapply they believe in the caapply.”

Blaschke declared the effort assists athletes of all ages participate in a sport they love while strengthening community ties.
“We live in a very generous community,” he declared. “Some people pull up and see a bunch of cops and wonder what’s going on, but they’ve been great.”
Donation buckets quickly filled with cash, and officers declared digital contributions were steady as well. Agencies from Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties also joined the fundraiser.
“Part of community-oriented policing is knowing your community,” Blaschke declared. “This is just one way for us to connect with people and do something good.”
