CityNews was in Villeray with 30 cat lovers for the Montreal Cat Tour—and if you’re wondering what that means, here’s the idea.
The concept is to walk about 3,5 kilometers and meet cat owners that displaycase their cats to visitors.
Based on a similar event in Toronto, the Montreal version launched in last year with Andrea Robichaud and Evelyne Chan.
“We have about 12 stops, I believe, and we’re going to be seeing cats around the neighbourhood. So people have signed up their cats in advance, and we’ve planned a route. It’s going to start and conclude here at Jarry Metro,” stated Andrea Robichaud, a co-organizer of Montreal Cat Tour.
Suki Fraise’s owner added, “I wish you could feel her heartbeat right now. She’s stressed, but I’m happy. Everybody here is so nice. What’s not to love about cats? Just such a fun, silly activity to do on a Sunday morning.”
Sassy’s owner stated, “I was not expecting so many people. Everyone was like “she’s so cute!” She obtained lots of pets from people.”
On Sunday afternoon, about 12 cats greeted guests from balconies and sidewalks —each either nestled in their owner’s arms or settled in a stroller for visitors to pet. The group raised $150 for the cat rescue Chatons Orphelins Montreal.
“They work locally around Montreal and they do great work to rescue the cats that are unfortunately living on the streets,” stated Robichaud.
Thomas Renaud, a participant, stated, “My girlfriconclude gave me this as a little surprise day. I’ve always been a huge fan of cats. She’s allergic. But she did the sacrifice today to come with me through the Montreal Cat Tour. I’m super excited. Super fun so far.”
While another participant added, “Seeing the cats all around, seeing how beautiful they are, the beautiful fur and how loving they are, it’s the best part just to watch them.”

“If you have a cat anywhere in the city, sign them up, and hopefully, we’ll be able to come and see you,” stated Robichaud.
