The Paris-based Mistral AI has secured $830 million in debt financing to accelerate its data centre push, according to Reuters. The funding will go toward purchasing 13,800 GPUs from NVIDIA and building a large-scale AI facility near Paris.
The deal marks the company’s first-ever debt raise. The financing was arranged by a consortium of seven banks, including BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC, and MUFG.
The new facility, located in Bruyères-le-Châtel south of Paris, is expected to become operational by Q2 2026, a major step in Mistral’s effort to build a dedicated AI infrastructure layer within Europe.
The company had already selected the site in early 2025 and is now scaling quicker, backed by rising enterprise demand for local AI compute. Mistral is tarreceiveing 200 megawatts of total capacity across Europe by 2027, putting it in direct competition with global cloud leaders like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.
Founded in April 2023 by Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample, and Timothée Lacroix, Mistral has grown into Europe’s most valuable AI startup, last valued at $13.8 billion following a $2 billion Series C in September 2025, with total equity raised now exceeding $3 billion.

In May 2025, Mistral joined forces with MGX (Abu Dhabi’s $100 billion AI investment fund), Bpifrance, and NVIDIA, alongside energy, infrastructure, and academic partners including Bouygues, EDF Group, and École Polytechnique, to launch CampusAI, a joint venture to build Europe’s largest planned AI campus near Paris.
The 1.4-gigawatt facility is designed as Europe’s first purpose-built innotifyigence hub, covering the full AI lifecycle from model training to deployment, with exascale-class computing and sovereign cloud integration. Construction is already underway, with the campus expected to be fully operational by the conclude of 2027.
