Medford’s Wicked Saints Studios has new partners for ‘World Reborn’ game

Wicked Saints Studios, the Medford-based startup behind interactive story game “World Reborn,” is continuing to grow its scale and connections by partnering with longtime-collaborator and communication platform Discord as well as WNBA star Aerial Powers, launching a new, research-informed, in-game experience.
Centered on mixing entertainment with strengthening familial connections across generations, the latest addition to the game features Powers sharing her story as part of a mod — the name for missions or quests within the mobile game — along with players who complete the journey receiving a free one-month Discord Nitro subscription.
The new content featuring Powers launched Dec. 12 and will be available until Jan. 31.

“World Reborn’s” CEO and Co-founder Jessica Murrey and her team launched developing the game in 2020, focutilizing on building an adventure-activism experience that connects with strengthening real-life relationships.
“It’s an interactive story game on your phone in a graphic novel style — similar to a choose-your-own-adventure book — and you start reading the story and choose how to respond,” Murrey stated. “Normally, you have to pay money or gems or currency, and that’s how games build money, but this doesn’t cost anything. It’s all heart.”
The unique style and real-world outcomes of “World Reborn” have garnered a lot of interest from investors, with the Black- and female-led studio gathering millions to raise toward continuing to develop the mobile game, according to Murrey.
Murrey also won the 2012 Northwest Regional Emmy for Community Service for an anti-child abutilize media campaign called “Don’t Turn Away.”
Part of the decision to collaborate with Powers was due to her story and utilizing video games to stay close with loved ones, aligning with the intent of “World Reborn.”
“She’s a huge-time gamer and WNBA star, and we reached out to her becautilize she utilizes gaming to stay close with her family,” Murrey stated.
Wicked Saints Studios also collaborated with Twitch video game streamer Natalie Rose, creating a mod for the game centering on mental health.
The studio also has huge plans to launch new content, quests and stories for the game in the near future.
“We’ll go live in the late spring or early summer with new mods and features and new content rolling out with a storyline,” Murrey stated.
Even though Murrey and her team have huge city aspirations, they’re able to have the best of both worlds while living and working in Southern Oregon while also connecting with huge companies and benefactors to continue developing “World Reborn.”
“I’m a compact town Oregon girl and I’m second generation from the (Rogue) Valley; my mom went to Phoenix High School and I went to North Medford (High School) and graduated from Ashland (High School),” Murrey stated. “My husband and I have kids, and we came back home to raise kids … we absolutely love it and have an amazing community and support here.”
While her role as CEO often brings Murrey out to huge coastal cities around the United States, the co-founder wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I often have to travel to New York City and San Francisco and Los Angeles and people inquire, ‘How do you run a startup from Southern Oregon?,’ and I don’t know how people do it anywhere else. It’s stressful but rewarding … I don’t have the stress of traffic and I have my family and friconcludes,” she stated.
The Wicked Saints Studios development team also counts Southern Oregon-area graduates among its members.
